A Trip to Paradise

From the heat on your skin to the coolness of crystal-clear waters melting away your worries and cares. From the sweetness on your tongue sipping coconuts to the spicy flavours of the local cuisine. Chasing the sun for an endless summer has never been easier on the Island of the Gods.

Bali itself takes on many personalities, encouraging people from all walks of life to experience new ways of life. From day into night, the island becomes an entirely different place which creates a multicultural and vibrant melting pot that we fell in love with on our most recent trip.

This is our guide to a 5-day stay in Bali. Huge shout out to Bali Retreats who matched us with the perfect accommodation!

DAY ONE

Before the sun has even yawned itself awake, surfers are already embracing the day. At sunrise, we made the half hour trek down the cliff to Nyang Nyang, where we were greeted with a 1.5-kilometre stretch of white sandy beach. We had this secluded little spot all to ourselves, where we could watch big waves roll in. Shells strung up on string in the trees were dancing with us in the breeze.

Fuelling our body after a morning adventure, we dropped into Nourish where we devoured a tuna poke bowl.

We spent the afternoon at Suluban Beach, a hidden gem through a cave, where we lapped in rock pools on the low tide.

To finish off our first day we made our way to Ulu Garden for live music under the trees twinkling with fairy lights, before rolling into our beds at Villa Yoga Bingin.

DAY TWO

Palm trees were swaying as we were swinging in hammocks at Pamilla Beach Club.

From there we walked the white sandy shoreline of Melasti Beach where the water was so crystal-clear we could see every little fish swimming in it.

Sticking to picturesque beaches of the south, our next slice of paradise was Green Bowl. Like Goldilocks, a visit to Green Bowl requires the conditions to be “just right”. The tide can’t be too low or too high; a mid-tide seems to be the golden rule.

Travelling through lush jungle back to the west coast, we dropped into Drifter Café for lunch. With wholesome food, an art gallery and a surf shop all rolled into one, it turned out to be the perfect afternoon pit stop. Drifter also hosts Sunday markets and surfboard swaps once a month which is our excuse to come back soon.

Dreamlands, as the name suggests, was our dreamy sunset spot for day two. Busy in the water with waves for all levels of surfers, we settled in on the sand and soaked up the good vibes from the shore.

DAY THREE

This was our big surf day, opting to surf the most popular breaks from sunrise to sunset.

We began at Padang Pandang for some epic barrels, then surfed our way through Impossibles and Bingin. Bingin beach is a small but popular spot, where we weaved through warungs to get to the unbelievably blue water.

Sunset was spent at Single Fin in Uluwatu watching the advanced surfers putting on a show.

DAY FOUR

Checking out of our Bingin paradise and moving to Villa Hana in Canggu, we decided that after our busy surf day we deserved to spend a relaxing day at Pantai Beach. We bought takeaway coffees and breakfast at Seseh General Store then wandered down to the water, hired deck chairs under an umbrella and settled in.

Energy returning, our evening exploded in colour and music at Motel Mexicola – an authentic Mexican restaurant with amazing food and a fun atmosphere.

DAY FIVE

For our final day we couldn’t go past a final surf sesh at popular breaks in Canggu. But first we eased into the morning with ocean-side yoga at picturesque La Brisa, a beach club built using reclaimed wood from more than 500 old fisherman boats.

From sea breeze into sea water, Echo Beach had us ripping on some punchy lefts, where we took our long boards to Old Man’s for some cruisy rides.

Sunset saw us and everyone else down by the water; bathing, sun baking, and hanging out at the beach clubs.

We had quick little souvenir shop at Love Anchor Canguu Bazaar before dining at Pizza Fabricca for the ultimate comfort food after a big week in paradise.

Kindness and respect are imbedded into everyday life here in Bali, where ancient cultures mix with modern practices in the hope that those who visit here find balance. And it’s the people who live in paradise that make us want to come back again and again and again.
