1973 - The First Billabong Boardshort – Hand cut from durable, heavyweight canvas, Billabong’s first pair of boardshorts are hand-sewn on the Merchant’s North Burleigh kitchen table. The shorts soon evolve with triple stitching and flat thread for comfort, and a classic mull leaf print becomes Billabong’s first big hit.
1982 - Long Bongs - When the world was making short boardshorts, Billabong disrupted the market by going long.
1985 - First Stretch Boardshort - Billabong develops the first stretch boardshort and redefines performance boardshorts.
2005 - Rising Sun Boardshort - The most iconic boardshorts of all-time made famous by the most iconic surfer of the modern era. Andy Irons bombing from the sky at big Banzai Pipeline wearing his red Rising Sun shorts captured the boundlessness of the new millennium.
2007 - The First Recycler Boardshort - The Recycler boardshort program begins, turning plastic bottles into performance boardshorts. To date the Recycler program has taken millions of bottles out of the line-up and landfills.
2013 - Life’s Better In Boardshorts - One of the great universal truths that became a defining campaign, living on today.
