Travel Diaries: Dunsborough, WA

In white sands and pools of blue, our child of the sun basks in her Summer glow. From textured white swim and structured white linen, to a nostalgic surf print of the 90s, this collection can be mixed and matched as you please.

Best worn close to the waters edge with Western Australia being the perfect backdrop for our salty sun child.

Our campaign muse was the gorgeous Liv Pollock, with our favourite photographer Josie Clough behind the lens, read on for our tips from our time in Dunsborough, WA.

STAY

Dunsborough in WA is a quaint coastal town in the Margaret River Region south of Perth. We stayed in the Sugar Shack, a retro styled air bnb like something reminiscent of your childhood. Hearing the waves crash on the shore was a soothing way to fall asleep, with bunnies running around the backyard and native birds and butterflies flitting by as the sun sets into the ocean. It was picture perfect paradise with ocean views and a salty sea breeze.

EAT

One of the best meals we ate was at ‘La Scarpetta Trattoria’ – an Italian restaurant in Margaret River which was about 30 mins from our accommodation and well worth the drive. Of course, we ate all the favourites including arancini filled with homemade cheese and spinach risotto, homemade pasta parcels with a porcini and forest mushroom filling tossed in butter and safe and the most incredible oven roasted potatoes with garlic and rosemary. It was certainly a meal to remember. Another place worthy of mention is the Yallingup General Store where we had a pit stop for a burger and bubble o bill ice-cream on our shoot day. This place is simple and rustic and has preserved the surf culture from the area and where the locals make you feel at home.

BEACH

Meelup Beach is one not to be missed. It’s seriously stunning, with hardly any people around, bright white sand and the clearest calmest turquoise water we’ve ever seen. We shot a lot of our campaign here because it was just too pretty to leave. It would have been so easy to park up there for the day and have a picnic under the shade of the native Australian trees perched on the shoreline.

Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park is another special spot in the area and if you visit you will be rewarded richly. Not only does it stretch more than 120km n length, it showcases some incredible beaches, more than 300 limestone caves, forest walks, camp grounds carved in bush and stunning ocean views from limestone cliffs, as well as the rock pools we shot at.

All in all it was a short and sweet visit but we fell in love with WA and it’s sheer beauty. Cute country towns, kangaroos bounding on the long dry plains, the distance it takes to get anywhere is all the opposite to where we came from on the busy and bustling East Coast. The feeling of a 90s summer where you simply spend all day long at the beach, head to the general store for an ice-cream for lunch, and laze by the rock pools all arvo.
