The land of Aloha with Shaanti Senaratne

Picture this, an island covered in beautiful mountains, vast open spaces without buildings,  thousands of palm trees, days full of sunshine and perfect waves, delicious food and being surrounded by some of the sweetest people I have come across, with a little city to go shopping and have some fun in and some of the best sunshine my skin did ever feel. Oahu, what a perfect little paradise.

This Island brought so much joy to me in such a little amount of time and I would love for it to give the same effect to anyone else who is lucky enough to visit such a beautiful island, so let me tell you a little bit about what I did and why I had such a great time.

I got to surf Waikiki with a bunch of incredible girls, we party waved, tandem surfed, did head stands and rode baby waves all day long until the incredible sunset. We spent the whole day there, surfing, eating, strolling the interesting streets. I definitely would go back to Waikiki, it’s a place full of fun, a little city by the seaside!

On the North Shore I surfed Chunns reef when it was smaller swell which was so much fun on the long boards, rode bikes around, tanned and filled my belly with acai bowls and poke (A Hawaiian style raw fish dish that we seriously ate every day). The sunrise shack cured our craving for  Acai  and they sure did an amazing job, the yummiest peanut butter bowl I have tasted and in such a cute little location too, the vibe around the whole shack is so nice and definitely a place I would recommend going for your morning coffee and hangs. As for all your poke needs I definitely recommend Pupukea grill, I think I ate there around 15 times while I was there, I just couldn’t get enough, simple and so delicious, served out of a food truck with locals lining up to order.

Hawaii was the perfect balance of relaxing and fun, a very simple place surrounded with so much culture and beauty. I loved my days with the girls enjoying the simple pleasures of life like nature, surfing, culture, good company, and yummy food. Everywhere I looked I could find at least one of these things which made it paradise for me. I can’t wait to go back there and I highly recommend you put it on your bucket list.
