Karissa Sparke's Guide to Crescent Head

We’ve had a longtime crush on Karissa Sparke and her effortlessly cool style, her authentic approach to products and brands she endorses and her envious perfectly blonde bob and salt-kissed skin. We asked her to choose her favourite pieces from our Winter collection, and shoot them in Crescent Head where she currently resides, living and breathing that small town salty coastal life. Read on for her favourite things to do in Crescent Head and add it to your local escape bucket list asap, it’s a place that oozes the laidback lifestyle we all crave!

Best Beaches for Surfing:

Crescent Head is quite easily a surfers paradise and the world-famous point break here is one of the longest rides in Australia. It’s is also one of Australia’s iconic National Surfing Reserves and has such a consistent wave that it’s such a drawcard for surfers of all styles. There are waves on either side of the Head, including at Killick Beach, Goolawah beach, Big Hill Beach and Racecourse Beach.

“For me, I can’t go past Crescent Point. It’s an amazing point break, with predictable waves that are amazing for a surfer of all kinds of levels. Also, the fact I can literally walk, or even float down the creek to get there, it’s hard to imagine surfing anywhere else.”

Best Coffee:

Blackfish – it’s honestly AMAZING! We were so relieved to have an epic coffee shop here and the owners and staff are all such legends. Being that I work from home, it’s become my little daily ritual to get out, head to the coffee shop and socialise a bit.

Best Places to Eat:

Blackfish - Of course I will say Blackfish again, they have some delicious easy options, and I especially love the vegan nachoes.

Point Break Café – “Definitely the spot that has the best views in town, really good acai and lots of other easy grab n go options.

The Bush Kitchen – For dinner the best bet is The Bush Kitchen, it’s a bit of a trek from town but it has amazing, chilled vibes and is seriously some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. You can literally watch them pick ingredients from their garden to make it.

Pandanus – Pandanus is a nice vibe for tapas style food and drinks

CH at the Med – This place has a really beautiful setup in a courtyard with cacti and festoon lights. The Med would be one of my top recommendations to stay too. They’ve created a really amazing space there, like you’re stepping into a slice of the Mediterranean in little old Cresecent Head. Perfectly located within walking distance to town and the beach.

Best things to do:

Obviously my favourite thing to do is surf and hang out at the beach, but there are other things to do in Crescent.

Watch the sunrise from the headline – The headland aka Little Nobby at Crescent Point has such a beautiful view. It’s an amazing spot to watch the waves and you often see SO many dolphins and whales (depending on the time of year). You can also take a nice stroll down the coast from here, which takes you up another headland.

Folic in the pristine creek – The creek behind main beach is really picturesque at high tide. Crystal clear, aqua water. I love floating down the creek to get to the surf, it’s pure bliss and such a perfect way to zen out!

Sunset Dinner date at the point – What Crescent Head lacks in fancy dining options, it makes up for in natural beauty. So we often grab some beers and hot chips and sit at the point at sunset and just soak it all in.

Bush walk at Big Hill – There is a beautiful little coastal walk starting from Big Hill carpark along the headlands.

Visit JJ at The Station Boardstore – Not only is this a sweet little surf shop, but JJ is one of the chilliest dudes and biggest legends you will ever meet. He’s also just set up an outdoor cinema at the back of his store and plays old surf movies, has live music and you can chill out by the fire.
