Hibiscus Tea Smoothie

Hibiscus flowers are synonymous with summer and tropical beach vibes. But did you know that the flowers, when consumed as a tea have a wealth of health benefits?

Hibiscus tea is quite a tart flavour, which is why it is a great digestive tonic. It is also well known to lower blood pressure and support healthy metabolism.

The most commonly dried hibiscus is the red flower (hibiscus sabdariffa) different to the most widely known hibiscus. The petals are used in the tea and brew a beautiful crimson colour. Much like tomatoes and watermelon the bright red colour of the hibiscus flower gives merit to a high antioxidant capacity, however studies still need to confirm this.
