Boosted Hot Chocolate

I know what you’re thinking, hot chocolate, anyone can do that. But this recipe is a boosted with a body loving nutrient. Collagen. Have you heard of it? Maybe you’ve seen TV ads talking about skin creams boosting collagen production etc. Collagen is an abundant protein within the body that is involved in connective tissue; such as skin, ligaments, muscle and bones.

As our body’s age, we need to make sure we’re nourishing it with nutrients that support the ongoing regeneration of these cells to maintain our active lifestyles. Your body produces collagen from amino acids (individual proteins), so to make collagen you need to be eating protein rich foods. There are some great powdered supplements that also provide collagen, these are made from either marine (fish) or bovine (cows). It dissolves completely in liquid and has no taste, so think of this hot chocolate as a little boost for your overall health.

Boosted Hot Chocolate (makes 1)

Ingredients

1 TBS cacao

1 TBS collagen

¼ tsp cinnamon

pinch of nutmeg

1 cup milk of choice

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except the collagen in a pot and bring to boil on the stove, whisk to combine. Alternatively, if you have a coffee maker with a frother add the ingredients to the milk jug to mix and forth.
  2. Once combined and boiling. Turn off the heat and whisk through the collagen.
  3. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • If you need it a little sweeter add a dash of maple syrup.
  • Adding a star anise to the mix will give it a hint of licorice flavour
