Blueberry Smoothie

Hello warmer days. Hello smoothie season. If you’re a smoothie lover, you may enjoy the odd one or two in winter. But spring, summer and occasionally in autumn are the best months. Smoothies are such an easy and convenient way to have a nutrient loaded meal. There are so many wonderful combinations, but one of the prettiest is definitely blueberry.

 

 

Even though the name says “blue”, it creates such a vibrant purple colour. This colour is thanks to the powerful antioxidants within, called flavonoids. Did you know the blueberry is hailed as the king of antioxidant rich foods? When preparing fresh blueberries, gently wash and pat dry just before eating to remove the protective bloom on the fruits skin.

 

 

Blueberry Smoothie (serves 1)

 

Ingredients

½ cup frozen blueberries (fresh can be used, I just like an ice cold smoothie)

1 frozen zucchini

1 serve of vanilla protein powder

¼ cup rolled oats

1 TBS LSA (linseed, sunflower and almond meal)

1 cup almond milk

 

 

Directions

  1. Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until well combined.

Tips:

- Add a couple of ice cubes before blending to increase the thickness of your smoothie.

- Why not add a dollop of almond butter or ABC butter (almond, brazil and cashew) to provide a serve of healthy fats and increase the nutritional content.

- Top with whatever fruits, muesli, coconut flakes, nuts, you may have on hand or enjoy as is.
